Do not discard the notice and do not wait to respond. The IRS and states will pursue your balance due until it is resolved or paid, including taking future tax refunds, filing liens, or potentially garnishing paychecks.
The IRS and individual states add interest and penalties to tax balances due. There are a variety of different penalties that can be applied to your tax account, quickly inflating your balance due, and interest accrues daily on any unpaid balances.
If you are unsure about the tax notice that you have received, we can help review the notice and chart a path forward to resolve the notice and any balance due. We can help clarify and potentially help reduce or eliminate tax penalties or balances due.
If you receive a notice in the mail from the IRS or a state tax authority for a return filed by Maryland Tax Service, Inc., we will review and help respond for no charge.
Here's what we will do to help resolve your tax notice:
If we are required to contact the IRS or state(s) on your behalf to resolve your tax issues, we must complete the necessary forms to obtain Power of Attorney, to discuss your tax account.
We will work directly with the IRS or state tax authority, to help resolve your tax issues. Unfortunately, contacting the IRS and state tax offices often requires a considerable time commitment.
We may request an upfront payment of fees, based on our estimated time to resolve your issue.
